The 25th Annual Talbot County Fair will be held this year on July 9, 10, 11 & 12, 2008. Highlights include: 4-H/FFA Exhibits, Talbot Agriculture, Livestock Shows, Rabbit Show, Pedal Tractor Pull, Ice Cream Making Contest, Various Entertainment, Livestock Auction, Dinners, Watermelon Eating Contest and more!

Come out Wednesday evening to see the 2008 4-H Ambassadors who will be selected in a program packed with 4-H'ers telling their story and their plans to expand the program and membership. The Ambassador program is totally planned and executed by the 4-H'ers. It is surely one you will enjoy!
After the Ambassador program, 4-H will host the annual cake/baked food auction. Prize winning baked goods will be arranged in gift baskets you just can't resist. Be sure to bring your bidding arm to not only support the 4-H Program but to take home blue ribbon goodies upon which to feast. The auction proceeds are used to support the 4-H'ers when attending local, regional, state and national 4-H events. Thanks in advance for your belief in the 4-H Program. This year we will also have vegetable baskets for auction!!
Move over "Project Runway", on Thursday evening @ 6:30pm, come see our very own Talbot County 4-H'ers on the Collier Building runway in their own fashion expertise. Both constructed and ready-to-wear outfits will be proudly modeled by the 4-H designers. Imagine a fashion show that is all about youth! Be there and see if you agree with the judges choices. Our senior aged 4-H models will be eligible to participate in the Maryland State Fair in Timonium in late August.
The Pretty Animal Contest is back once again by popular demand and will be held Thursday, July 10th at 7 PM . This popular event has something for everyone. Dress your prized pet or farm animal in their best outfit and show them off at the fair. The animals will be separated into two categories, large and small, and their owners will read a short description about the costume. The audience will vote for the best costume in each category. If you are interested in participating, you must sign up no later than 6:45pm!! Don't miss this fun show.
Who would You Like To See Kiss a Cow? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to kiss a cow? We will be having some local celebrities for you to vote for the one you would like to see kiss a cow. The object is to raise money for the Talbot County Fair and our programs. The person with the most votes will kiss the cow. This will be happening on Thursday evening during the Pretty Animal Contest at 7:00pm and again during the Livestock Auction on Saturday at 7:00pm. Come to the information booth to see pictures of the participants and pay a $1 a vote to have them “Kiss a Cow”. Come see who will love the cow (or be loved by the cow).
Trot your horses – please trot? is a familiar phrase you will hear if you attend the Talbot County Fair on Friday July 11. The annual Talbot County Horse Show begins at 9am and has 30 classes including conformation, english and western events. There will be over 25 exhibitors completing with their horse and pony projects. Riding classes such as pleasure, equitation, trail riding, jumping and speed classes will be held throughout the day. Champion and reserve will be awarded in 7 divisions.

Animal Rescue Basics Days End Rescue is going to offer a short course at the Fair on Friday at 4:30pm so come out and learn how you can help the horse yourself with some basic knowledge and equipment you already have around the farm.
Food at the Fair How come the food at the fair always tastes better than other places and it has less calories (ha ha)? We have evening meals each night being served with meat, two sides, roll, dessert and a drink for $8. Wednesday is going to be a fried fish dinner by Ross Chapel AME, Thursday will be pulled pork by Butch Frase and Grills on Wheels, Friday’s dinner will be pit beef by the Talbot Young Farmers and Saturday is a chicken dinner by St. Matthew’s Church. The dinners are being served from 5 to 8pm except Saturday, which is served from Noon to 7pm.
In addition, the Easton Ruritan booth will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, clam strips and fries. The Talbot Young Farmers will again be serving ice cream, lemonade, iced tea and nachos. The Tri County Ruritan booth will be frying dough, and candy bars. Sweet Rick’s will have Italian ices. A new vendor, Lisa’s Luncheonette will be bringing a variety of new foods to the fair. They will be serving crab cakes, sweet potato fries, steak sandwiches, deli sandwiches, chicken tenders, breakfast on Friday and Saturday mornings and other items. There will also be snowballs in the community alley. There should be food found for every taste. Come try out all of our food vendors.
Calling all the cute babies in Talbot County! Come out and strut your stuff in the Annual Baby Contest on Saturday at 11am. There are 8 categories based on age for you to compete in...0-6 month old girls or boys, 6-12 month old girls or boys, 1 year old girls or boys and 2 year old girls and boys. Each contestant will be judged on appearance, general health and personality. Prizes will be given to the Best Dressed Winner and the Best Overall Winner for each category. Registration begins at 10:30am. There will be a small entry fee for each entry.
After the Baby Contest, stick around for the Pedal Tractor Pull at 12 noon. The Contest will be broken down into several different age brackets to see who can pedal the farthest pulling the weighted sled.
Back once again is the Cow Chip Bingo B-I-N-G-O, no these are not the letters at the top of grid and the numbers will go to 100 and not only 75. This game is not played with a caller and individual cards but on a 10 X 10 grid on the ground numbered 1 to 100. This game is played by buying a ticket for $5 to win half of the amount collected in total. The remaining half is going to support the Talbot County Fair and a Relay For Life team. Buy your ticket and hope that the cow plops in your square. Not much you can do to control this but the anticipation is great. The cow may plop immediately or it may take several hours or we might have to add a different cow. Come watch the drama unfold on Saturday at 1pm in the horse ring..
Who doesn't love ice cold watermelon on a hot summer day? Come out and participate in the Watermelon Eating Contest on Saturday at 2pm. Age categories are 6-8, 9-12, 13-15, and 16 to adult.
Community Alley Do you remember the fairs you went to as a child? The Talbot County Fair does and wants to allow the children of today have the memories of some simple games that are a lot of fun without a lot of expense. Children can have their faces painted, fish for prize bags, toss dimes, pick up ducks, go on a scavenger hunt, spin the cake wheel, take a zoo dip, check the speed of your arm and other games as they are manned. There will also be a game for the adults who enjoy Longaberger® baskets.
Entertainment What entertains you the most? Do you want to see the people you only see once a year or maybe it’s the people you see on a daily basis but in a different setting? As you are able to catch up with your friends we try to provide a background of sounds, sights, tastes and smells to tempt your senses. For your listening pleasure we will have Mel Price and his Country classics from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday. On Thursday DJ Bruce Patrick will provide background music for our Fashion show at 6:30 and continue with his own show until 10pm. Friday evening brings one of our own, DJ Tim Burns to provide some pleasing sounds for our listening pleasure from 7 to 10pm.
For your watching pleasure there is a petting zoo, exhibits made by our 4-Hers for you to see what our children are capable of, livestock shows, games to play, auctions, a pretty animal contest, a fashion show, carnival rides and many people to watch. Come keep your eyes occupied.
There are many different tastes to be found. There are four different evening dinners and six different food booths. There has to be something to please your taste buds.
Whether it is the food, shows, games people or something else come make a local memory. |
